Frequently asked questions

What is Audible Compliance

Audible Compliance is our accessibility audit. Instead of a spreadsheet, you receive a recording of your own website being read by a screen reader, so you hear where a visitor gets stuck. A transcript, a written report and an ordered list of fixes come with it.

Do you certify websites

No. There is no official government certification for website accessibility in the United Kingdom, so nobody can honestly issue one. We tell you what we found, on the date we tested, and what to do about it.

Do you use accessibility overlays

No, and we will never recommend one. Overlays sit on top of a website and claim to repair it automatically. They do not fix the underlying problems, and they frequently get in the way of the screen reader a person already knows how to use.

Who does the listening

A person, not a scanner. Our own engine does the mechanical checks first. Our founder, who uses a screen reader every day, can then review your site personally, and that review is included in the Verified Audit.

What standard do you test against

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, at level AA. Where we can reasonably go further than the standard, on text size, contrast and the size of things you have to press, we do.

Do you need our passwords

No. We need only your website address and written permission from someone authorised to give it. For pages behind a login, we agree a test account with you. We never ask for anybody's personal password.

Can you fix what you find

Yes. We quote for that separately from the audit, so the audit stays honest and you are free to have the fixes done by your own team or anyone else.

How long does it take

We agree a date with you before we start, so you know when your recording and report will arrive rather than waiting to find out.
